April Morning 

It’s been the hardest year we’ve known 

We’ve never felt so alone 

In a haze of days repeating 

one after another 

trying to keep our spirits high 

Doing what we have to to get by 

Trying our best to look out for each other 

Hearts breaking every day, feeling  swept away 

Wading in an endless stream of sorrow 

seems like it will never end 

it’s driving us around the bend 

each day we wake up praying for tomorrow 

But today I rose up early 

to a choir of robin’s singing 

and blazing trees with blossoms all adorning 

Jasmine in the air, buzzing everywhere 

I think we’re gonna make it through on this April morning

Primrose Light 

There’s not much news that’s good if you can find good news at all Some say the world is slowly dying or maybe fasterAnd most mornings I awaken with a worry in my bones 
for the child of my heart 
and what’ll come after 

And I don’t know if our human story 
is coming to a close 
And if we are living out our final days 
But don’t fill my ears with tales of fear or schemes to hide away No I want to go out singing songs of praise

 The fog is slowly lifting, rolling out over the bay 

Another Sunday morning out walking these blues away 

I  turn the phone to silent, watching the kites take flight 

A sky of dancing dragons, glitter in the light

Paris in the Rain

 I wake up early to Paris in the rain 

Just around the corner from Rue St Germaine 

35 years I still see us in that square 

Me the girl with the long tangled hair 

Harmonica wailing a Neil Young tune 

About a town in Ontario with a yellow moon 

Playing for coins and the kids keeping time 

As you counted the money and ordered the wine. 

You never came home, you ran as far as you could go 

Far from your mother and the grey suburban snow 

Me I was burning with the music in my heart 

shot me off flying like a comet through the dark 

So many seasons come and gone 

I’ve landed here again 

Waking up early to paris in the rain 

La la la.. 

 The bells of our lady are ringing in the night 

Remember how we’d pray she’s show us wrong from right 

We were 2 catholic girls determined to fly 

tethered to angels that were blocking the sky 

I met you at 13, loved you at 17 

Lost you at 20 and hardly saw you again 

I kicked  all that guilt and I was never the same 

And you boarded that train from Paris  in the rain 

La la la… 

There’s a peace  that is growing with the passing of time 

The travel is kinder, the linen more fine 

They’re calling me madam as I’m showing my age 

At least no cat-calling men are inciting my rage 

but no sweet smiling girls are turning their heads 

And I’m sleeping alone in a queen hotel bed 

Everything sounds better in en Frencaise it’s true 

I’m practicing my lines for some future  rendez-vous 

I’ve nothing to prove and not much left to gain 

Just reflections in the water and  Paris in the rain 

La la la la…

She Carries Me

 She is a boat, she is a light 

High on a hill, in dark of night

She is the dark where angels sleep 

When all is still and peace abides

Plant a Tree

What then can we do, there’s nowhere else to go 

The warming of the oceans, the melting of the snow. 

Born into this world, amazed you fall in love. 

With sky and rain and sunset 

And Crystal stars above 

And every living creature from the time you are a child 

Fills your heart with gladness and weds you to the wild. 

But the nightmare now upon us. 

With every passing day. 

The news of our demise in more terrifying ways. 

What then can we do as grief rises like the sea. 

Honor everything you love. 

Plant a tree, tend a flower, rock the babies write a song 

If we only have an hour to this earth we will belong 

though your heart be torn with sorrow and hope holds no guarantee 

There’s no promise of tomorrow. 

Plant a tree….  

Every new invention designed to hypnotize 

Create another billionaire and keep us mesmerized 

The titanic’s set on sinking we’re all heading far below 

It’s tempting to just go drinking or stream another show. 

All the prayers and incantations we hold so very dear 

Can’t fix what we have broken or beam us on out of here. 

But oh I will worship the final blade of grass 

Bow down in gratitude for every life that’s passed. 

I’ll love the light upon this world for all eternity 

And when my life is over

If we only have an hour to this earth we will belong
