Lyrics

California
A foggy day in Covent Garden, I watch the jugglers in the rain
And an old man singing “The Streets of London,” I’ve always loved that sad refrain
I’ve traveled to so many places, Istanbul to Ireland
Flown on wings and guitar strings, made so many long time friends

But oh California
I miss you when I’m gone
Though I was born to wander
You’re where I belong

In ‘82 I made my break, headed south through Washington
A kind eyed trucker gave me shelter, rolling down the 101
Speakers up and the windows down, we traded songs to pass the day
Neil Young and Jackson Brown, and Joni Mitchell the rest of the way

Oh California
I miss you when I’m gone
Though I was born to wander
You’re where I belong

I loved it when you took me dancing, with the hippies in the gym
And the quiet days we spent in passing on the cliffs of Esalen
We walked the streets of San Francisco, hand in hand and unafraid
Reminisced ‘bout rock and disco, laughing at the lives we’d made

Oh California
I miss you when I’m gone
Though I was born to wander
You’re where I belong
